What Water Spots Actually Are

When water evaporates off a surface, anything dissolved in that water is left behind, and hard water carries a lot of dissolved minerals, primarily calcium and magnesium. As the rinse water dries on your vehicles, those minerals precipitate out and bond to the surface as visible white or cloudy spots.
The water looked perfectly clear coming out of the hose, but it was carrying a mineral load you could not see, and evaporation concentrated and deposited it right onto the paint and glass. The spots are not dirt that washing failed to remove. They are minerals that the rinse water put there.
